Editorial Reviews for Poderi Aldo Conterno Barbera Barbera d'Alba Conca Tre Pile
Sweet raspberry fruit, almost a touch of cream, high-toned, fresh, slightly gamy, spicy sandalwood, fresh a bit dull though, fine tannins. A bit diffuse on the mid-palate, nice structured feel on the back palate, a bit compressed, crisp tannin, fine finish, a bit dry but gains focus. Should improve.
Aldo Conterno is one of what is perhaps Barolo’s premier winemaking dynasty. His father was Giacomo Conterno, one of the stalwarts of the region, but rather than join his brother in running the family estate, he struck out on his own in 1969. Aldo’s wines are fine examples of the Nebbiolo grape. He operates from Bussia, in the village of Monteforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Barolo region. Also Conterno has been an innovator of great importance, and this dynamism has been passed onto his sons, Stefano, Franco and Giacomo, who now run the winery. Their 25 hectares of vines are at an altitude of approximately 100 metres above sea level, with a soil of calcareous marl alternating with layers of sand.
