Winemaker's Notes:

Podere Brizio is located in Sant’Angelo in Colle, known for producing long-lived wines of great elegance and finesse. Once a part of the larger Pieve di Santa Restituta estate, Brizio was kept by Roberto Bellini when he sold the rest of Pieve to Angelo Gaja in 1996 because he felt the quality of this little parcel far exceeded the other holdings. Brizio’s neighbor also include the famous Case Basse of Gianfranco Soldera. www.poderebrizio.com ____________________________________________________________________________ 2006 is proving to be a show-stopping vintage from Montalcino. Wine Spectator's initial overall vintage review for the region has been: "Complex and powerful wines that impress with ripe yet fresh fruit and firm yet silky tannins...93-96 Points" www.winespectator.com ____________________________________________________________________________ Podere Brizio Brunello 2004 was rated 91WS/92WA! The 2006 supposed to be similar to the 1997! James Suckling My Blog: First Impressions of 2006 Brunello January 6th, 2011 (IL BORRO, ITALY, JAN. 6, 2011) "I am finishing my blind tasting of 2006 Brunello di Montalcino today at home in Tuscany, and I am very excited about the vintage. The wines are subtle, yet rich, structured, and powerful. This vintage is the new benchmark for the region — a modern 1997." "Very pretty blackberry and currant aromas, with hints of flowers and sandalwood. Dried fruits too. Full bodied, with intense tannins, but they have a polish and refinement. Lovely density in the center palate. I would try this in two or three years...(92JS)" 1/15/11
