User Reviews for Plymouth Original Gin England Rated
Add your reviewA good solid, neutral gin, without too much of any particular botanical or citrus. I like it, among other purposes, for a drink I call the Stiles (4 parts Plymouth, 1 part Lillet blanc, 1 part St. Germain liqueur). Irrelevant anecdote: the excellent Eastern Standard restaurant and bar in Boston refers to this as "the Spirit of Plymouth" on their menus.

Plymouth Original Strength is a unique, protected style of gin originating from the city of Plymouth, South West England. Since 1793 it has been distilled from a unique blend of 7 botanicals, soft Dartmoor water and pure grain alcohol at the historic Black Friars Distillery - the oldest working distillery in England. Great with a rack of lamb, but pairs perfectly with a gourmet or homemade pizza! Plymouth Gin Website
A great depth of flavour, with a wonderfully fresh juniper, lemony bite with deeper earthy notes. It has a slight sweetness with extraordinary concentration and complexity. No single botanical dominates the overall flavour. The finish is long and dry.
Not an overwhelming juniper presence in this gin. Lemon and orange peels add a nice citrusy aroma and taste while Angelica root provide the distinct dryness.

Clear. Light juniper nose. Medium body. Substantial juniper hit upfront that carries through to a lean citrus peel and quinine character. Finishes with a hefty wave of spicy heat. A substantial gin that would be great in a gin and tonic.(tastings.com)Voted Best Gin, BBC Good Food Magazine 2002Double Gold Winner, San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2001Best White Spirit, International Wine & Spirit Competition 2000 Tasting note A great depth of flavour, with a wonderfully fresh juniper, lemony bite with deeper earthy notes. It's got a really lovely junipery quality. But you can also actually feel the other rooty, earthy sort of flavourings in there. And when you come to taste it, it's soft, it's quite a strong spirit,...but it's round and it doesn't attack you at all. It's a very nice gin indeed. Good with tonic I'd say."Jilly Goolden, BBC Food & Drink programme"If you keep gin in the house, this is the one to have" Nigella Lawson, Vogue Magazine
