What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Winemakers Notes

Plungerhead 2005 Zinfandel - Dry Creek Valley With deep garnet color, the nose reminds us of caramelized oak, chocolate covered strawberries, and savory subtle sage. The mouthfeel is soft but the flavors are vibrant with notes of cassis, vanilla rum, pecan pie, and black cherries with a warm, lingering finish. Wine Enthusiast What an easy-drinking Zin, and it has real complexity, too. The flavors are of rich, chocolaty cherry, raspberry and blackberry flavors, with Zinny spices, while firm tannins and good acidity provide a rich structural balance. This is a lip-smackingly good Zinfandel. Score: 88 points.

Our Lodi Zinfandel has deep purple color with cocoa, vanilla, clove, and cherry pie aromas. Rich and sappy in the mouth with flavors of boysenberry preserves, cedar, dried raspberry, and coconut spice finishing with great depth from barrel oak aging.
