Plumpjack Syrah Napa Valley 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

95 points Robert Parker: It is hard to believe that Plumpjack could make an even blacker purple wine than the 2014, but they have done just that with the 2015 Syrah. Slightly lower in alcohol at 15%, versus the 15.4% of the 2014, the opaque purple wine offers up blueberry and blackberry liqueur, charcoal, incense and white flowers in a gorgeously voluptuously textured wine that doesn't quite show the nuances and delineation of the 2014, but keep in mind it is one year younger. This is packed and stacked and another potentially brilliant Syrah from Plumpjack. I wonder what their fruit source might be? Drink now-2023. Drink: 2016-2023. (Dec 2016)

The fun-loving and irreverent spirit of PlumpJack clearly excited the sensibilities of Gordon's close friend and business associate, Gavin Newsom. Read less

In the nose aromas of white pepper, smoked meat, olive tapenade and baked plums. Flavors of five spice, cardamom, star anise, vanilla and boysenberry coat the palate.

Plumpjack 2006 Syrah The 2006 Syrah is a big brother to the 2005. Primary aromas of all blueberry, blackberry, plums, raspberry jam and vanilla are followed by secondary aromas of coffee, rose petal and hints of stem from the hole cluster fermentation. Primary flavors of raspberry, plum and black cherry and pain grille explode in the mouth. The finish is dense and rich with firm tannins suggesting this wine will age gracefully for the next 5-8 years.
