Plumpjack Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

93 points Robert Parker: The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Oakville is from the well-known McWilliam Oakville Vineyard, made famous by Nils Venge when he made wine at Villa Mt. Eden from this site. It has rich, broad, but velvety tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and up-front drinkability (which is somewhat surprising), but gorgeous seductiveness and plenty of blackcurrant and black cherry fruit. This full-bodied, precocious and lusty style should drink well for 10-15 years. (Oct 2014)

The fun-loving and irreverent spirit of PlumpJack clearly excited the sensibilities of Gordon's close friend and business associate, Gavin Newsom. Read less

The saturated, dense, inky/purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate reveals spectacularly sweet fruit (sucrosity) and purity as well as a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a lightness and ethereal complexity that are not the least bit heavy. This stunning 2012 should age effortlessly for 15–20+ years.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon wraps around the palate with soft dark red berries, crushed flowers and licorice. The aromas and flavors are nicely layered in the glass. The 2012 is a bit laid back in style today. It will be interesting to see if I caught the wine in an awkward stage or not. Sweet floral and spice notes resonate beautifully on the finish, but I don’t quite find the typical Plumpjack generosity in the glass. In 2012 the blend is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot.
