Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Oakville Cuvée 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review Rated 99 The virtually perfect 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot) does indeed recall those great Villa Mt. Eden Cabernets of 1974 and 1978. An inky/purple hue is accompanied by a provocative aromatic display of blackberries, blueberries, cassis, spring flowers, and graphite. The wines extraordinary purity, unbelievable density of fruit, and full-bodied mouthfeel result in an awesome Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for three decades or more. This modern day legend is the finest wine to emerge from the Plumpjack winery. Bravo! Wine Tasting Notes Our 2007 PlumpJack Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot) exhibits explosive aromas of blackberry, black cherry and bakers chocolate. These aromas are followed on the palette by flavors of black currant, blackberry pie filling and raspberry cordial. The finish is dense, sweet and expansive. This wine is the best of what our 40 acre estate vineyard has to offer.

The BEST of 2007. This is a wine that I craved the next day. Seamless intergration of tannins with a well stuctured velventy finish. Have had about 20 of the best 07s and this is still in my top 3. Amazing all the way around. Going to enjoy my next bottle next year and expect an even better wine!

WA 90pts. - According to Robert Parker: The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, a blend of estate and non-estate fruit (from mountain vineyards such Ink Grade, Outpost, True, and Pestoni), is closed at present, but it appears to be loaded with potential. Abundant notes of cassis, black raspberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with notions of chocolate, cocoa, and bay leaf are followed by a structured, tannic, medium to full-bodied wine that needs some time in the bottle. Give this well-built, masculine Cabernet Sauvignon 4-5 years of cellaring, and consume it over the following two decades.

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (4,000 cases produced) is a serious effort revealing delicious blue and black fruits intermixed with notes of crushed rocks and spring flowers. With supple tannins, loads of fruit and flavor, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and no hard edges, it should be even better in 2-3 years, and last for 12-15. Not surprisingly, it comes from a blend of fruit from some extraordinary vineyards Beckstoffer George III in Rutherford, the Kenefick Ranch in Calistoga, and the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane in St. Helena.

Elegant and stylish, delivering a sleek core of ripe plum, black cherry and currant flavors shaded by black licorice and mocha notes. Full-bodied, focused and wonderfully balanced, ending with a long, pure finish that keeps repeating the polished fruit themes. Drink now through 2020.

Perhaps the finest wine yet produced at Plumpjack, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve reveals a saturated deep purple color as well as a promising nose of creme de cassis intermixed with smoke, lead pencil shavings, melted licorice, and minerals. Full-bodied and dense yet impeccably well-balanced with well-integrated tannin, good acidity, stunning ripeness and richness as well as fabulous purity, this is a powerhouse red with great balance and equilibrium. Give it 4-5 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 15+. Drink 2007-2023.

2007 is the first year of a two year drought period. Much like 2004, Napa Valley received very little spring rain and ample sunshine promoting early bud break at our Oakville Estate. With the water table so low due to the lack of winter rains vines struggled and shoot growth was very limited as the vine concentrated efforts on producing fruit. The culmination of these growing factors resulted in small clusters with tiny, intense berries that produced wines of incredible opulence. The 2007 PlumpJack Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a testament to the wonderful quality of the 2007 vintage. Explosive aromas of Black Cherry, Plum, blackberry, chocolate and vanilla are followed by flavors of plum sauce, chocolate, coca powder and plums. Extremely enjoyable now this 2007 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon will benefit from cellaring for the near term and last 10-15 years.
