Planeta White Blend Sicilia IGT la Segreta Bianco 2011
Four and a half glasses
Slightly sweet and rounded, but not too buttery for this fan of crisp finishes.
Today show pick charro at white peaches citrus
A decent enough wine. Nose of flowers and fruit. The finish has some bite to it.

Planeta is a Journey through Sicily. And that journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate which the Planeta family has owned since the 1600s. Here on Italy’s most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s. The trio’s newest winery is La Segreta in Menfi, upon which the Planeta winemaking expertise has been lavished to achieve wines of the very best quality. The grapes from this wine come from the Planeta winery’s first vineyard. The label pays tribute to this meaningful place with a map of the vineyard. Production Area Menfi, Sicily, Italy Grapes are sourced from the vineyards of Menfi and Sambuca di Sicilia. Grape Varieties 50% Grecanico, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Viognier, 10% Fiano Vinification The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed; the juice is clarified through cold settling overnight and then inoculated with selected yeast. Fermentation and storage takes place in stainless steel vessels. Color Straw with light greenish accents Bouquet Lively, aromatic bouquet combining mineral scents with classic aromas of green citrus fruit, lime, peach and white melon Taste Fresh, supple and round on the palate, with good balance between fruit flavors and crisp acidity Alcohol 12.5% Serving Suggestions Excellent as an aperitif, and a perfect match with raw seafood dishes, lightly fried appetizers, salads and all types of creative cuisine. A fun and versatile wine, ideal for parties and other festive gatherings.
/ This full-bodied blend (which includes Viognier and Chardonnay) comes from a highly progressive producer.
La Segreta Bianco 2013 - 87 points, Wine Enthusiast/ A blend of Grecanico, Chardonnay, Viognier and Fiano, this opens with a fragrance of honeysuckle, stone fruit and citrus. The juicy palate offers lemon zest, nectarine and white pear alongside bright acidity.
/ Pale golden yellow. Honeyed pear and passion fruit on the nose, with a bright overlay of white flowers. Juicy and soft, with more intensity than the 2007 La Segreta, but could use a bit more brightening acidity to frame its rich citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Finishes creamy and moderately long. This wine reminds me quite a bit of the Alastro, a 50/50 blend of grecanico and chardonnay made by Planeta.
La Segreta Bianco 2010 - 87 points, Wine Enthusiast/ La Segreta is intentionally engineered to be one of those easy Italian whites that washes down fried calamari and spaghetti con vongole. Aromas include citrus, pear, white almond and honey.
Italian Connection - Planeta/ Planeta is an impressive, critically acclaimed group of wines- at a variety of price points. You don’t have to think about it- if you see “Planeta” on the label, you know it’s going to be good. Easy to like, with bright, aromatic lemon, lime, cream, peach, and apple notes that mingle on the full-bodied but fresh finish. A lot of wine for the money! Ready to drink now. A blend of Grecanico, Chardonnay, Viognier and Fiano.
/ A tasty blend of 50 percent Grecanico, 30 percent Chardonnay and 10 Viognier. It is light-yellow-gold in color with a nose of green banana, pear and lychee. On the palate it displays more tropical fruit with a touch of mint. Good acidity and a long, satisfying finish.
