The 2008 La Segreta Bianco is generous and layered in its ripe apricots and peaches. There is a slightly candied, perfumed quality to the fruit that is quite attractive as this beautifully balanced Sicilian white opens up. La Segreta is 50% Grecanico, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Viognier and 10% Fiano.
Pale straw-yellow. Rather inexpressive nose hints at passion fruit and herbs. Then much more intense and explosive on the palate, with lively flavors of peach, passion fruit and herbs. Finishes with average length.
Pale golden yellow. Honeyed pear and passion fruit on the nose, with a bright overlay of white flowers. Juicy and soft, with more intensity than the 2007 La Segreta, but could use a bit more brightening acidity to frame its rich citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Finishes creamy and moderately long. This wine reminds me quite a bit of the Alastro, a 50/50 blend of grecanico and chardonnay made by Planeta.
A blend of mainly Sicilian grape varieties. Some Chardonnay is added for weight and body along with Viognier for floral aromatics. Handsomely balanced with appley tropical fruit notes and crisp acidity.
Aromatic and ripe, with zesty lemon curd and grapefruit notes on a waxy yet vibrant frame. Marcona almond hints fill out the minerally finish. Grecanico, Chardonnay, Viognier and Fiano. Drink now.
