Planeta is now a world famous Italain producer. Planeta wines represent a journey through the whole of Sicily. The company now has 390 hectares in four different areas of Sicily. La "Cantina Grande" (Main Winery) is at "Dispensa" in Menfi also, it is the most recent and devoted entirely to the white and red La Segreta wines (based on Grecanico and Nero d'Avola grapes respectively) and to the Rose, one hundred per cent Syrah. In the Bianco the five varietals are harvested and vinified separately before the final blending. The grapes are crushed and destemmed before fermentation which takes place at 15 degrees C for 12 days in temperature controlled, 200hl stainless steel tanks. The wine holds vibrant and aromatic with notes of citrus fruits, lychee, pineapple and peach complemented by hints of minerals, herbs and mint. It is full and dry, smooth and supple with balancing acidity and a long, minty finish. It is excellent as an aperitif, but also with raw dishes (including seafood), lightly fried food, mixed salads, soft white cheeses.
