My special favorite, with a rich bouquet of ripe red fruits and black olives with lovely accents of sweet spices and vanilla. I found it to be round, fruity and flavorful. A full-bodied wine with well integrated tannins and a vibrant spicy finish.
Grand dark Ruby red, very concentrated and intense in the glass. Booming nose, straight out of the box with deep black cherries, hints of oak and vanilla. Very intense. The palate brings home a brilliant wine, perfectly balanced, jammy and fruity on the finish. It's a little bit drying and tannic but actually I enjoyed that aspect to it. Felt quality all the way to the 30 second finish. QPR kudos!
Nice fruit, smooth finish.

Planeta is a Journey through Sicily. And that journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate which the Planeta family has owned since the 1600s. Here on Italy’s most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s. Menfi, in the southeastern portion of Sicily, is the heart of Planeta and its operational base. Various types of soil are found here, but all are rich in lime and clay, ideal for the international red grape varieties which are transformed into wine at La Dispensa winery – Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Production Area Menfi, Sicily, Italy Grape Varieties 100% Syrah Vinification The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed; extraction on skins followed by 12 days of maceration at 77°F with fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks. After racking, the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Color Ruby red with violet undertones Bouquet Full and rounded bouquet; intense spiciness with hints of pepper, cloves and rosemary; overtones of cassis, coffee, fig and red fruit jam Taste Fresh fruit dominates; luscious and supple in texture, with a mouth-filling character Alcohol 14.5% Serving Suggestions Pair with mature cheeses, beef dishes, lamb with ginger sauce, cheeseburger with mushrooms, or herb-encrusted ribs.
Maroccoli Syrah 2008 - 92 points, JamesSuckling.com/ A wine with spice, dried meat and fruit. Full and juicy with pretty fruit and fine tannins. Delicious now. This is the first year of this Syrah being single vineyard from 400 meters high.
Maroccoli Syrah 2010 - 91 points, Wine Enthusiast/ A savory and meaty expression of Syrah, this opens with enticing aromas of dark cherry, leather, cured meat and wet earth. The palate is extra smooth and soft, with flavors like pistachio and almond, that pin the wine to Sicily.
Syrah 2005 - 88 Points, Wine Spectator/ An aroma of rose petal leads to concentrated flavors of raspberry, cream and spice. There's plenty of iron and mineral on the finish.
Syrah 2007 - 91 points, Wine Enthusiast/ One of Sicily’s best expressions of Syrah, Planet’s rich and velvety wine offers elegant aromas of blackberry, cherry, smoked ham and crushed white pepper. The wine is smooth and long on the finish with loads of chocolate intensity.
Behind the Petit Bistro range, which playfully evokes the legendary allure of Gallic romance and joie de vivre, are six compelling wines, a Chardonnay, Rosé, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Syrah. All originate in vineyards nestled between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Massif Central in the Languedoc region of southern France. Thanks to the emergence of a small but growing cadre of innovative wines such as Petit Bistro, made in an unabashedly modern, New World style, the Languedoc is starting to develop a reputation as the “New Old World” of international winemaking. Production Area From the Languedoc region of southwest France, an area highly conducive to production of fine quality grapes. Thanks to the introduction of progressive, new, more rigorous vineyard management techniques in the past 20 years by innovative growers, the Languedoc is sometimes hailed as “the California of France.” Grape Varieties 100% Syrah Vinification Grapes are machine-harvested before dawn to avoid the potentially harmful effects of the heat of the day. The fruit is immediately transported to the winery, de-stemmed and fermented 6-8 days under controlled temperatures with daily pumping over. A malolactic ensues. The wine is matured 4-6 months in stainless steel vats before bottling and release. Color Deep Violet Bouquet Blackberry, black currant, and spice Taste Ripe blackberry and cherry Alcohol 12.5% Serving Suggestions Perfect with hamburgers, barbecued meats, succulent pork chops, pastas, flavorful risottos and ratatouille, the traditional hearty vegetable dish of southern France.
/ Deep, dark concentration sets the tone and segues into pronounced notes of blackberry, cherry, tobacco, root beer and a touch of A-1 steak sauce. It offers grounded, straightforward elegance with plenty of weight and character, finishing with spice, mouthwatering fruit and dusty tannins.
