Planeta is a Journey through Sicily. And that journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate which the Planeta family has owned since the 1600s. Here on Italy’s most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s. Planeta Rosé is the latest addition to the family’s great jigsaw puzzle of Sicilian wine production. After much anticipation, the debut vintage has arrived and is the perfect choice for an aperitif, outdoor dining or an array of culinary options. Production Area Menfi, Sicily, Italy Grape Varieties 50% Syrah / 50% Nero d’Avola Vinification The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed followed by 3-4 hours of maceration to reach the perfect extraction of color. The must is racked and fermented in stainless steel at 60-65 degrees F. Color Soft pink with hot pink glints Bouquet Pomegranate and wild strawberries with a background of flowery and tropical aromas Taste Smooth and soft with well balanced acidity Alcohol 12.5% Serving Suggestions FEW LIMITS! Excellent as an aperitif, with light pasta dishes or fresh fruit. A perfect partner for fish, pasta or warm octopus and potato salad.

Behind the Petit Bistro range, which playfully evokes the legendary allure of Gallic romance and joie de vivre, are six compelling wines, a Chardonnay, Rosé, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Syrah. All originate in vineyards nestled between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Massif Central in the Languedoc region of southern France. Thanks to the emergence of a small but growing cadre of innovative wines such as Petit Bistro, made in an unabashedly modern, New World style, the Languedoc is starting to develop a reputation as the “New Old World” of international winemaking. Production Area From the Languedoc region of southwest France, an area highly conducive to production of fine quality grapes. Thanks to the introduction of progressive, new, more rigorous vineyard management techniques in the past 20 years by innovative growers, the Languedoc is sometimes hailed as “the California of France.” The soil is clay and limestone with rolled stones. Grape Varieties 60% Cinsault, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah Vinification Grapes are machine-harvested before dawn to avoid the potentially harmful effects of the heat of the day. The fruit is immediately transported to the winery, de-stemmed and fermented 5 days under controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks with daily pumping over. The wine is fined with bentonite before bottling and release. Color Light pink Bouquet Aromas of candied red fruit Taste Fresh, ripe fruit flavors with vibrant acidity Alcohol 12.5% Serving Suggestions Serve chilled as an aperitif or with salads, fish, pork and grilled meats.

Rose 2008/ A mixed case of Syrah from all over the world. You really couldn't find a more delicious and fashionable present than this. So here is an idea for a tour of the world entirely based on the Syrah grape. 3) Rosé Syrah. These will probably be in the rosé aisle and be sure to get a young one. Not long ago we picked one up from Sicily (Planeta, $15). Syrah rosé can be full-bodied, good with all sorts of food.

At the heart of the world’s favorite spirited beverages you will find Cinzano, recognized by its signature blue and red label and 250-year tradition of excellence. With classic appeal and versatile brands, Cinzano’s legacy is sure to continue for generations to come. In 1757 CINZANO’s two visionary brothers, Giovanni Giacomo and Carolo Stefano Cinzano, Master Distillers, opened a small shop in Turin where a dream soon became a reality. As their traditional Vermouth production rapidly increased, so did their reputation for quality. The Savoy monarchs beckoned the brothers’ expertise to create a sparkling wine to emulate the popular French Champagne of the early 19th century. The result was the birth of Cinzano Sparkling Wines in 1850.The Cinzano range of sparkling wines includes both sweet and dry versions, each with their own unique characteristics. Production Area Piedmont, Italy Grape Varieties Made from a blend of Durello, Garganega, Trebbiano and Pinot Nero grapes. Vinification Fermentation in tank followed by 1 month of maturation before bottling. Color Soft pink Bouquet Generous aroma of ripe berries Taste Fruity, fresh, lively acidic, pleasantly smooth Alcohol 11% Serving Suggestions Serve well chilled as an aperitif, or as an accompaniment to light appetizers and salads

Diamond Series Rosé 2010 - 86 points, Wine Enthusiast/ This deep rosé—made from 70% Barbera and 30% Merlot—exhibits intense aromas of red plum and strawberry, along with a hint of pomegranate. Light weight but fruit forward, this has assertive flavors of red cherry and berry that show good length on the finish.
