I never had this varietal nero d'Avola, so didn't what this would bring. To me this doesn't taste like a Mediterranean wine from my experience. It tastes more like a cru bourgeois bordeaux wine. It is very tight and well structured and supports well spicy meats (which we had with it, merguez sausage). By well structured I mean nothing really stands out, which is not bad, just a pleasant, correct blend of flavors that will hold its own with what you have in store for it. Not a rustic or exotic wine (as I had expected), it is more mainstream, full bodied and sophisticated, lacking the real excitement of a grand cru, so a good honest, red wine that will support almost any cuisine. Would not drink without food. The snooth info says priced at around $15.00, I would say this price is justified.
