Planeta Red Blend Sicilia IGT Burdese 2002

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Fantastic aromas of currants, spices and cedar follow through to a full-bodied palate with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Rich and powerful. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2006.

My favorite Planeta red wine is the 2000 Burdese (100% Cabernet Sauvignon). The new oak treatment is better integrated in this offering since the Cabernet, with its big, tannic structure and dense cassis fruit, adapts well to barrel treatment. This 2000 reveals classic tobacco and creme de cassis notes intermixed with hints of licorice and toast. Full-bodied, ripe, and concentrated, with sweet tannin in the finish, it requires 2-3 more years of cellaring, and should drink well over the following 12-14 years.

Soft and generous, with loads of ripe berry, mineral and smoke flavor. Full-bodied, round and luxurious. Like caressing a lovely piece of deep black velvet.
