Cometa 2008/ Intense aromas of dried exotic fruit - mango, papaya - and a hint of fresh banana. Full-bodied, with a fresh, silky texture and lots of flavor. Turns to citrus and pistachio on the finish. A vibrant white, bursting with flavor.

Cometa 2010 - 92 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Cometa is an irresistible white wine from the deep south of Italy. It speaks its own Sicilian language but with modern, international accents. Made from Fiano grapes, it opens with a beautiful golden color, and delivers rich aromas of stone fruit, vanilla cream and rose. The mouthfeel is exceedingly soft, creamy and long-lasting.

Cometa 2011 - 92 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Among the greatest expressions of Fiano, Cometa is a full and generous effort, with deep layers of passion fruit and stone fruit, plus touches of vanilla, honey and light spice. The concentration and freshness is wonderful, and the wine would pair well with steamed lobsters or buttery crab legs.

Planeta 2013 Cometa - 92 Pts - Wine Enthusiast/ Intense aromas of white peach, tropical fruit and Mediterranean herb lead the nose and follow through to the round palate alongside a mineral note. The juicy fruit is brightened and balanced by refreshing acidity.

Italian Connection - Planeta/ Planeta is an impressive, critically acclaimed group of wines- at a variety of price points. You don’t have to think about it- if you see “Planeta” on the label, you know it’s going to be good.Concentrated tropical aromas and flavors- melon, pineapple, lime- are smooth and polished, picking up delicate herbal notes on the elegant finish. Ready to drink now. 100% Fiano.

Planeta is a Journey through Sicily. And that journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate which the Planeta family has owned since the 1600s. Here on Italy’s most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s. Planeta’s first winery, Ulmo, together with an old family farmhouse, is situated on the banks of the Arancio Lake in the eastern portion of Sicily. The soil here is deep and chalky – perfect for the production of Planeta’s great white wines: Chardonnay and Cometa. Production Area Menfi, Sicily, Italy Harvested from two separate vineyards; Gurra, planted in 1998 and Dispensa planted in 1996. both have roughly 4500 vines / hectare. Grape Varieties 100% Fiano Vinification The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed; the juice is clarified through cold settling overnight and then inoculated with selected yeast. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks over a 20 day period at a cold temperature of 15°C (59°F). Bottled in the second half of February following the year of harvest. Color Straw yellow with evident green tints Bouquet Intense, luscious; within the wide range of aromas one can distinguish lychees, nectarines, pineapple, mandarin, peppermint, and Mediterranean bush scents such as chamomile and wild thyme Taste Elegant and full, with fruit flavors accented by intriguing fragrances of the seashore Alcohol 14% Serving Suggestions An outstanding match with seafood tartare, asparagus soup, ravioli with ricotta cheese and duck breast with wild mushrooms.

Cometa 2009 - 92 points, Wine Enthusiast/ Aromas of peach, honeysuckle and almond are irresistible but the wine really excels in the mouth where it imparts opulent density and richness. This wine is an absolute pleasure to drink. A beautiful Sicilian wine that would pair with shellfish, crab cakes or white meat.
