Planeta Chardonnay Sicilia IGT 2013
The 2010 vintage had a golden yellow color with green hues. There were aromas of apricot, vanilla, blossom honey, candied almonds, toasted hazelnut, banana, passion fruit and golden apple. Oak seemed to be more well-balanced here and furthermore the nose had even more to offer than the 2009 vintage which already showed a high diversity. The 2009 vintage had a straw-gold color. On the nose a heavy aroma of apricot, a bit of banana, golden apple, blossom honey and hints of toasted hazelnut. Alcohol by volume was label listed at 13.5%. Rich and round on the palate with some acidity. Lots of notes of rather exotic, ripe fruit. Not overwhelmingly complex. Very long aftertaste. A little bit too intense, paid €21, a questionable value for money
Beautifull yellow with gold and green shades. It offers an intense, complex and fine aroma, with a pleasant delicate note of toasted vanilla. Structured and Balanced, this wine is a great companion for mushroom based sauces.
Golden yellow in the glass, exceptionally strong colour for a white. The nose is giving sweet aromas of apples, caramel and honey, a really polished nose. The palate is outstanding, really creamy with hints of citrus fruits, very little oak. I really recommend this Chardonnay very highly possibly the best Chardonnay currently produced in Italy.

Vibrant gold in color, this complex and rich chardonnay boasts a beautiful nose of toasted hazelnuts, caramelized pineapple, passion fruit, bartlett pears, allspice, and vanilla. The mouthfeel is savory and multifaceted, with notes of of brioche, pistachi
Planeta is a Journey through Sicily. And that journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate which the Planeta family has owned since the 1600s. Here on Italy’s most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s. Planeta’s first winery, Ulmo, together with an old family farmhouse, is situated on the banks of the Arancio Lake in the eastern portion of Sicily. The soil here is deep and chalky – perfect for the production of Planeta’s great white wines: Chardonnay and Cometa. Production Area Menfi, Sicili, Italy Grape Varieties 100% Chardonnay Vinification The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed; the juice is clarified through cold settling overnight and then inoculated wit selected yeast. Fermented and aged in 225-liter French oak barrels, 50% new and 50% one-year-old. The wine is aged for 10 months in barrel before bottling and release. Color Golden yellow with lively green glints. Bouquet Rich and intense. Aromas of peach, golden apple, white figs, vanilla cream, and meringue mingle with overtones of hazelnut and honey. The wood is shy but well balanced. Taste Soft, round and concentrated on the palate; the fruit flavors are wonderfully balanced by a powerful streak of acidity and rich mineral character. Alcohol 14% Serving Suggestions An outstanding match for ravioli with fish and lemon sauce, handmade pasta with truffles, and grilled meats. After some years of bottle aging, enjoyable with mature cheeses.
"Planeta Chardonnay 2007 contains golden yellow with lively green glints. It has rich and intense. Aromas of peach
Wine Enthusiast ReviewThis vintage of Planeta's celebrated Chardonnay is full-bodied and lush, with notes of peach, yellow rose, vanilla and honey, framed by toasted hazelnuts. The wine delivers a creamy, almost chewy mouthfeel with power and intensity, and continues with a long, soft finish.Wine Tasting NotesGolden yellow with bright greenish hues. Rich, intense, fruity. Peach mousse, black figs, rose and vanilla cream. Overtones of hazelnut with a hint of orange blossom honey. The wood is delicate and hidden beneath the fruit fragrances. Soft, strong, extremely warm. Its wonderful balance is held by a powerful streak of acidity. Perfect for cheese ravioli, fish soup and vegetable risotto.
Exotic, with vanilla, toasty oak and dried pineapple character that turns to apple tart flavors. Full-bodied, thick and oily, with an almost late-harvest character. Comes across almost off-dry. Slightly overdone in this hot year. Drink now.
