Strawberry and strawberry leaf on the nose with a slightly creamy edge and subtle undertones of fur, mineral and a slightly green berry tone. Silky in the mouth with fine balance to the tight mid-palate with dark mineral and fruit notes. There’s a little smoke and anise adding complexity with front-loaded fruit that emerges with time. This needs some time to relax, though the finish is already quite long with sweet spice and herb notes. 89pts
The wine had a rich cherry-red color. ABV was label listed at 13%. On the nose, I had aromas of pomegranate and a variety of red fruits (strawberry and cherry were among them). In general, the aromas were the typical Cerasuolo di Vittoria ones. In the mouth, I had a variety of fruits and some minerals which caused a tickly feeling on my tongue. The finish was a little bit fruity and persistently long. While drinking it, I was always wondering how this wine would taste if I had stored it for a few years. / This is a light red that can be consumed slightly chilled. Aromas include strawberries, raspberries and garden herbs, with flavors that are briary and herbal, yet rounded, layered with plenty of fresh fruit.
Wine of the Week/ A 60-40 blend of Nero d'Avola and Frappato, this wine is produced in stainless-steel tanks. The tannins and dark-berry fruit of the Nero d'Avola are countered by the lightness, acidity and red-cherry fruit of the Frappato. A fresh, vibrant wine with greath length on the palate, it does not overwhelm food.
/ Velvety and full bodied, this is a delicious, if serious, lighter-styled red. Very fruity in flavor (strawberry, candied cherry), it also has overtones of mint, ginger, and nutmeg. Exceptional.

Find Planeta Cerasuolo at a Retailer near you! Planeta is a Journey through Sicily. And that journey begins at Sambuca di Sicilia, on the estate which the Planeta family has owned since the 1600s. Here on Italy’s most enchanting island, three enthusiastic young Sicilians, Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, began their winemaking venture in the mid-1980s. Subsequent years were spent matching the extraordinarily diverse Sicilian soils with both indigenous and international varieties. Years of careful research paid off when the Planeta wines were met with immediate critical acclaim upon introduction in the U.S. in the late 1990s. The trio subsequently traveled to Vittoria in southeastern Sicily in search of one of the most unmistakable wines, Cerasuolo di Vittoria D.O.C.G, currently the only D.O.C.G in Sicily. Here, they established the Planeta farmhouse at Dorilli, near land which belonged to the Planetas’ paternal grandmother. This delightful wine is named for its remarkable color as cerasuolo means "cherry red" in Italian. Made from two local grapes, the Frappato imparts ripe berry flavors and freshness, while the Nero d'Avola lends a supple tannic structure, richness and intensity. Production Area Vittoria, Sicily, Italy Grape Varieties 60% Nero d’Avola, 40% Frappato (a local grape variety) Vinification The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed; extraction on skins conducted, with 8 days of maceration. After racking, malolactic fermentation takes place in steel tanks. Aged for four months in 100% stainless steel prior to bottling in mid-February. Cerasuolo di Vittoria 2007 - 87 Points, Wine Enthusiast/ Planeta’s Cerasuolo di Vittoria (a blend of Frappato and Nero d’Avola that recently became the first Sicilian wine to earn a prestigious DOCG designation) offers beautiful integrity of fruit followed by simple berry and spice nuances. It ends with crisp freshness and cheerful flavors of raspberry and marzipan.
/ A blend of 60% Nero d’Avola and 40% Frappato aged solely in stainless steel. Deep garnet with aromas of marascino cherry and rose petals- lovely! Mediumfull, this has tasty, fresh fruit, moderate tannins and very good fruit persistence. Very good winemaking- very clean and nicely balanced. One of the best examples of this wine.
