Pizzato Espumante Brut Rose 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

80 pn, 20chard, nine months on the lees 10% to 11% rs Lightly red fruited, a touch simple perhaps, fine mousse, sexy mouthfeel, easily slides across the palate, delivering nice raspberry and a little earthy yellow fruit as it goes, this is not creamy but soft and very fine, the fruit is small but pure and persistent on the moderately long finish, fun, 87pts

PIZZATO Vinhas e Vinhos is the legacy of a 100+ year-old grape growing in Brazil. Located at the Vale dos Vinhedos, Bento Gonçalves, in the state of Rio Grande do Sol, southern Brazil, PIZZATO is owned by the Plínio Pizzato family. Plínio Pizzato is the grandson of Antonio Pizzato, an Italian immigrant who came to Bento Gonçalves in 1875 from the Veneto region of Italy and brought with him the proud winegrowing tradition. With a solid experience in grape-growing, the family established the winery  in 1999 with the objective of making world class estate grown and bottled wines from their own vineyards. Since its first ever made wine, a very successful Merlot that helped to fix this red varietal as the one with the best results in Brazil, the company is dedicated to make exclusively premium fine wines under its 2 brands, PIZZATO and FAUSTO. The family owns 45 hectares (111 acres) of prime vineyards located in two regions, both within the so-called Serra Gaúcha region: Ø  Vale dos Vinhedos, Bento Gonçalves, the first geographical indication (GI) in Brazil ever, now a D.O. (Santa Lucia vineyard, PIZZATO brand) Ø  Doutor Fausto de Castro, Dois Lajeados (Dr Fausto vineyard, FAUSTO brand) The family uses both traditional principals and modern day technology is its efforts to make world class and top quality wines with well defined personalities. The wines from both areas, Vale dos Vinhedos and Doutor Fausto, are 100% made by Pizzato family winegrowers. Read less
