Dark red with garnet edge. Nose of cedar and dark berries; carries through on palate with lovely spice and forest floor. Medium to heavy body; generous French and American oak; med+ acid; well integrated, fine-grained tannins. Excellent balance with dark fruit, oak, tannins and 14.5% alcohol. Very good intensity with moderate complexity. Long, pleasing finish. Drinks well now and for next 6 to 8 years

I loved this wine. My notes are unclear as to where I purchased this wine but I suspect I received it as a wine of the month club selection from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa. This wine is a very dark purple with aromas of dark berries, baking spice, bittersweet chocolate and violets. Rich black/blueberry, baking spice, licorice, cinnamon flavors with a touch of oak. It is a big, concentrated, and complex. Firm tannins and a long spicy finish make this wine a little wild and exciting. I wish I had bought another bottle to keep in the cellar over the next couple of years

This classic Bordeaux variety has thrived in the rich Mclaren Vale soil producing a new and exciting style of wine. Its grapes produce wine as deep as Shiraz and similar in flavour, with abundant spicy violet aromas and intense berry characters.
