Overlooking the majestic slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, nearly sixty miles south of San Francisco and only three miles outside of downtown Los Gatos, lie eighty pristine acres forming Black Ridge Vineyards. These perfect growing conditions are instrumental in producing high-quality, highly approachable wines. Replanted with prune trees during Prohibition, and later converted into a Christmas tree farm, Black Ridge Vineyard partners Jim Landes and Fred Faltersack returned the land to its roots by re-planting grapes shortly after they purchased the property in 1999. From vineyard, to orchard, to Christmas tree farm, back to vineyard, the property has come full circle and - literally - back to its roots. We can only hope that our wine will impact you like it has impacted us and allows you to feel like you are truly experiencing something exceptional - a little taste of our great Santa Cruz Mountain terroir. It is the mission of Black Ridge Vineyards to produce limited production, award-winning, 100% estate grown wines. We intentionally planted vines in excess of our production needs to ensure a sufficient varietal mix to meet our blending requirements without ever having to purchase grapes offsite. During the Fall of 2002, the upper vineyard was planted with 14 clones of 5 varietals. Two years later, the lower vineyard plantings were completed with 12 clones of 8 varietals. With the planting now complete, Black Ridge Vineyards consists of just over 20 acres of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Viognier, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris. The inherent, discernible attributes of our vineyard are reflected in each of our wines. Our rich, floral whites and our concentrated, decadent reds are great representations of what our vineyard has to offer now and shows promise as to what it holds for the future. With the tremendous efforts and attentiveness of vineyard manager Ruben Balderas and winemaker Bill Brosseau, along with the devotion and support from the rest of the Black Ridge team, we proudly present to you our very first release of Black Ridge Wine. We hope you enjoy our wines as much as we enjoyed the entire process of getting our grapes into your glass. Below you will find the current vintages of our 3 signature wines: Viognier, Pinot Noir, and San Andreas Red. We also produce limited production wines for our BRC Wine Club, which you can find in our online store. Typically, we release our new vintage of Viognier and San Andreas Red every November, and the new vintage of Pinot Noir every May. Apricot, pear, nectarine, peach and banana are rounded out by some nice tropical fruit aromas. Pear and banana continue into the flavor profile and are matched by hints of mango and vanilla.
