Pioneers Block 3 Sauvignon Blanc 2008
From 1994 when wines from the first vintage all won medals including gold, the name Saint Clair has been synonymous with quality and its award-winning record continues today. Top International accolades include the trophy to Saint Clair/Matt Thomson for White Winemaker of the Year at the London International Wine Challenge, September 2008 and the coveted trophy for Best New Zealand Wine Producer of the Year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2005. Saint Clair Family Estate also has the distinction of being the first New Zealand wine company to win major international trophies for Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in the same year. The Block 3 Sauvignon Blanc holds intensely pungent aromas of passion fruit and gooseberry with underlying herbaceous notes. This Sauvignon Blanc is distinctively Marlborough and has a vibrant palate of passion fruit, gooseberry and aromatic fresh herbs. The wine has a wonderfully full and satisfying finish.

This is Saint Clairs flagship variety and accounts for over 60% of sales. Saint Clairs aim is to be the best producer of this variety in New Zealand. Show results over the last two to three vintages would arguably indicate this aim is being achieved on a consistent basis. The Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc is made in a similar way to the Premium Range Sauvignon Blanc. The significant difference is in the quality of the fruit. The very best fruit is selected for the Wairau Reserve but in only small quantities to ensure that the quality of the Premium Range Sauvignon Blanc is not compromised.
