Ranked 6th wine from Wine Spectator's 2008 Top 100.Extremely attractive aromas of blackberry, fresh mushroom and mahogany. Full-bodied, with lovely fruit, soft tannins and a long finish. Chewy, yet balanced and pretty. Builds on the palate. A big and juicy red. Best after 2010. 7,000 cases made.

[PJW] orange rind, rasp berry, BBQ, licorice. Great now, nice acidity and fruit will get better. Maybe the best of the tasting. 94
Brilliant Red Garnet color. Aromas of Fruit compote, Roasted meat, Leather and Dark cherries rise from the glass at first pour. With time it picks up notes of forest floor and menthol. On the palate. Red berries, sour cherry and an earthy minerality. Anise and tea leaves on tongue coating tannic finish. This is a great Barolo that needs more time and has a long life ahead of it.
Wonderful surprise and possible Pio Cesare's best ever Barolo, the 2000 Ornato is excellent VFM. The bouquet takes some time to come forward but reveals hints of red berries as well as a mineral character with some licorice and tar present. The real impact comes from the palate and mouthfeel of this wine, very refined and lingering. A really weighty Barolo that is rich and thick. Detecting strong mineral notes in the mid palate with a smooth and complex finish. A really well structured classical Barolo from a 5 star vintage. (SN 11/07)
a full bodied, heady wine with a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

Meaty and earthy aromas open to wonderful raspberries and strawberries. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a lovely chocolate, berry aftertaste. Drink this and understand Barolo. Bright ruby-red. Subdued but aromatic nose of rose petal, tar, leather and chocolate; cleaner than the classico Youthfully tight and backward, with a penetrating quality and an austere menthol component. Very fresh but currently hiding its opulence ... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2000 Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato 750ml
