What to Expect

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

Brilliant Red Garnet color. Aromas of Fruit compote, Roasted meat, Leather and Dark cherries rise from the glass at first pour. With time it picks up notes of forest floor and menthol. On the palate. Red berries, sour cherry and an earthy minerality. Anise and tea leaves on tongue coating tannic finish. This is a great Barolo that needs more time and has a long life ahead of it.

($72) Full, deep red. Vibrant aromas of raspberry, smoke and underbrush; as with the 2001s, this comes across as more primary than the Barbaresco. Fat, dense and backward, with a layered texture and superb acidity for the vintage. Not at all a jammy style of 2000; in fact, this seems distinctly cool and aristocratic. The huge, rising finish features big, ripe tannins and powerful, brooding fruit.

The colour is an intense glossy garnet, with orange reflections. The bouquet is ethereal, with hints of violets, blackberry jam, licorice and cloves. The palate is dry and austere, with a lingering hint of almonds.

93 pts from Wine Spectator! "Meaty and earthy aromas open to wonderful raspberries and strawberries. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a lovely chocolate, berry aftertaste. Drink this and understand Barolo. Best after 2009. 7,000 cases made. JS" - JUL 04 Issue - 90 pts from Antonio Galloni of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate! "The 2000 Barolo, with a powerful contribution of licorice and tar, is a wine of important length, intensity, and grip which will need a bit of time to round off its tannins. Drink: 2006-2016. " - AUG 05 Issue

[PJW] orange rind, rasp berry, BBQ, licorice. Great now, nice acidity and fruit will get better. Maybe the best of the tasting. 94
