Editorial Reviews for Pinot Noir Chalone Heritage
Light and aromatic with notes of sour raspberries and seared cherry accented by light hints of smoke and stemmy herbs. This is a lighter bodied Pinot with nice definition and cut that keeps this zesty and fresh. The flavors of wild cherry fruits have nice floral and mineral shadings and the soft tannins and nice acid backbone draw out the earthy finish. A very nicely balanced, elegant Pinot Noir. 88pts

Deep red plum color. Yeasty, earthy aroma. Very pleasant on the palate. Somewhat medium weight with a only bit of fruit flavor. Light-to-mediaum all through the palate and through the finish. This is a very good red sipping wine. You can drink it, be refreshed and not be reminded of it 10 minutes later. $14.99 at a Ralph's grocery store (that was closing) about 3 months ago.
Very nice Pinot Noir from California. Light to medium bodied wine that coats the mouth and flows easily over the tongue. Hints of raspberry and cherry with a slight touch of oak in the finish.
Sweet fruity nose, its crisply acidic with a slight game flavor, lots of minerality and some red licorice on the finish. I like it, but its too rich with sweet fruit for some people's tastes, Im sure.
Light blackberry flavors mix well with a light minty characteristic. Chocolate and bramble flavors on the mid palate. Nice earthy finish, moving into licorice flavors.
Slightly sweet, fruity and oaky wine with a mushroomy nose.

The grapes for this Monterey County Pinot Noir were sourced primarily from select vineyards in the foothills to the west of the Salinas Valley of Monterey County, including the cool and windy northern Arroyo Seco area and the Santa Lucia Highlands. The long growing season in Monterey allows the grapes to develop very mature, ripe fruit flavors with refreshing acidity and perfect balance. The wine features rich aromas of tart black cherries with hints of both clove and nutmeg. Ripe flavors of raspberries and cola follow on the palate. A small amount of Petite Sirah adds richness, giving the wine additional weight. This is a full-bodied wine with balanced acidity and a supple mouthfeel.
Winemaker's Notes:Engaging and seductive, our 2007 Pinot Noir offers complex aromas of Bing cherry and bright raspberry, which spill over the senses and mingle with bergamot tea, Asian spices and a subtle whiff of tanned leather. The intensity continues through the midpalate, with layers languidly lingering and swirling across the tongue. A distinctive minerality joins the finish, exposing the wine's unique origin. Swirl, sniff and sip to enjoy the subtle nuances of this intricately crafted wine, then pair it with a Parmesan-and herb-dusted flatbread or duck rillette.
Built on balance, finesse, and structure, the tart cherry, strawberry-like Chalone Monterey Pinot Noir has it all; not a blockbuster, but a very fine wine; pair with salmon.

Winemaker's notes:Perched high in the remote Gavilan Mountain Range, 1,800 feet above Salinas Valley, Chalone Vineyard is a one-of-a-kind wine estate. This is extreme wine country with rare limestone soils, limited rainfall and wide diurnal temperature swings. The unique terroir produces wine that imparts a subtle mineral character with compelling fruit and richness. By California standards, Chalone Vineyard's grape yields are small (less than three tons per acre), but the grapes from this vineyard achieve homogeneity of ripeness and display intense character and superb balance. The new Pinot Noir clones, planted in 1997, are really showing their potential with this vintage. The wine is darkly colored and amazingly opulent, with fantastic fruit intensity leaning toward red cherries and strawberries. Firm in body, with big tannins, this wine has amazing texture and length of finish. The ten months it spent in French oak integrated the fruit and tannins into a truly hedonistic glass of wine.Pair with roasted turkey, seared duck with cherry sauce, grilled salmon and wild mushroom risotto.
