Pininfarina Red Blend Napa Valley Vino Rosso 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2005 Napa Valley Vino Rosso is a great expression of the character of the Napa Valley. The aromas start off with a hint of vanilla and nutmeg spice, which quickly gives way to black currant and raspberry, melding with a background of ripe blueberries and a hint of violets. On the palate, the first impression is of concentrated fruit, particularly black currants, finshing with blueberries. The tannin structure of this blend is balanced with excellent fruit complexity which creates a robust, round, mid-palate. Vino Rosso 2005 is expected to cellar very well for up to twenty years after release.Vintage: 2005 Appellation: Napa Valley Varietal Composition: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 29% Cabernet Franc 6% Sangiovese 5% Petit Verdot

balsamic and fairly oaky on the nose with some assertive green herbs and a nice streak of grafite, and leather nice mouthfeel, well balanced, good acids and nice tannins, a touch earthy and mineral with some oak up front leading to more of a black curranty mid-palate with a hint of jammy blackberry, nice finish with good length, nice and firm with a touch of minty herb and medicinal notes, very nice 92pts

Drank it pretty much straight from the bottle but over a period of about 2 hours. Started out with WAVES of vanilla from the oak, then settled into a nice cassis, then moved on to a more blueberry/cassis vibe. Pretty close to what the tasting notes say (I looked them up this morning, after drinking). Pretty smooth, but there is definitely some alcohol present on the back end. Definitely get the leather play that the above reviewers are talking about Overall a very nice, smooth wine with a very nice mouth feel. Unfortunately for $95 I cannot recommend this wine to somebody looking for a value driven wine.

Amazing balance with beautiful integration of tannin. I do not detect the strong herbal notes noted by the previous reviewer. Core is driven by dark fruit and wonderful earthy accents of graphite and leather. This is an outstanding food wine. The acidity and tannins suggest aging potential of at least 20 years. Gorgeous!

Made solidly in the modern cult style of fruity ripeness, softness and rich oak shadings, this inaugural red from Gary Heck is a Cab-based Bordeaux blend with a splash of Sangiovese. It has complicated layers of blackberries, cherries, currants and milk chocolate. Quite delicious in primary fruit flavors, it could well be an ager. - S.H. Loamy earth, graphite, mineral and dried currant and berry flavors are dry and austere, though it gains complexity and length on the finish. Decant. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot. Best from 2009 through 2015. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,125 cases made. -JL ** Only 12 in Stock **
