Pine Ridge Forefront Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

External Review:

THE FLAVOR PROFILE: This wine presents an effusive bouquet of ripe blueberry, raspberry and dark cherry aromas, backed by hints of vanilla bean, subtle mint leaf and cinnamon stick. The palate is lush, opening with flavors fo blackberry pie and cherry fruit and backed by fine tannins and hints of toasted caramel, sweet cream and ground clove on the supple finish. - Winery THE WINE The fruit for this wine was sourced from three different and distinctive appellations. The lush mouthfeel and bright characters of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from Lake County elegantly balance the vibrance of Sonoma County Cabernet and the dark berry fruit and deep complexity of the Napa Valley Cabernet and other Bordeaux varietals. THE WINEMAKING : The fruit for this blend was harvested from late September through early November, then meticulously sorted and and sent to temperature- controlled tanks for fermentation. Pump-overs were performed two to three times daily to extract the intense flavors, and the finished wine was aged in 50% new French oak for five months prior to bottling. Blend: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon 7% Syrah 3% Malbec 2% Cabernet Franc 1% Merlot 1% Petit Verdot

A 2010 Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot from Napa and Lake Counties, California. Deep ruby color with tight rim variation. Dark fruits hints of plum and blackberry with a hint of cocoa. It has a long finish on the palette and balanced acidity. This wine will mature nicely over time (peak time 2017-2022). Best served chilled to 60 degrees, double decanted and served with a medium-rare veal chop & grilled vegetables.

A perfect entree into the classic Napa Cab: Cherry cola, strawberry licorice whips. Present but peaceful tannins. Fab value.

Pine Ridge winery makes stellar Cabs from their vineyards in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. Branching out to the slightly more affordable realm, they’ve created Forefront. The grapes actually come primarily from Napa(92%), and you’ll taste that immediately, but they’re sourcing additional fruit including Syrah and Grenache from San Luis Obispo to give this wine some real zip. The blend goes like this: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Syrah, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Grenache. The lots were all vinified separately and aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 17 months. It shows lush flavors of blackberry, plum, cedar and mocha, with the character and complexity you’d expect on a wine costing twice the price.
