Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc-Viognier Clarksburg 2012
A delightful idea: Chenin Blanc--native to the Loire Valley, France-- and Viognier--historically from the Rhone Valley. Pine Ridge was the first California winery to develop this original blend.Exhibits fragrant aromas of pear and melon, with a delicate touch of pink grapefruit. Sweet, bright flavors of citrus and pear are offered up along with a supple texture. The slightly off-dry finish is clean and crisp, marked with notes of grapefruit peel.
This is one of my absolute favorite , and go-to, white wines. The nose is light and grapefruitey. The taste is citrus fruit all around. My previous go-to, crowd pleasing White was Conundrum, but this wine has taken the top rank. It is somewhat more complex and satisfying than Conundrum, while being just as refreshing and satisfying. Furthermore, it is $13.50 for the Pine Ridge vs. $25+ for the Conundrum (in NYC).

This extraordinary blend enchants the nose with a refreshing bouquet of succulent fruit and delicate florals, opening with juicy honeydew melon, sweet white peach, and ripe green plum touched with hints of spiced white tea and soft apple blossom. The vivacious palate leads with crisp yellow grapefruit, fresh-cut pineapple and sumptuous honeyed pear notes. Lush and lively fruit flavors linger through the clean and slightly off-dry finish.
It shows hints of both varieties on the nose, honeydew melon attributable to Chenin and light, delicate wildflowers suggesting Viognier. Fresh, lively flavor, a hint of prickly, barely carbonated 'petillance' adds a refreshing vibe. Crisp white fruit and zippy lemon-lime last and last in a long, clean finish. A wonderful summer sipper, pleasantly slurpable at just 12.2% alcohol.
Established in 1978, Pine Ridge Vineyards produces classically proportioned, expressive wines that embody their history and distinct place of origin.
