Christmas 2013, Binny's. I don't believe I got a sip of the first of two bottles of this wine. This happens a lot with white wine at our house in the summer. Mary requests a white and over the next few days it disappears. Nothing wrong with that, just tough to say anything about it or rate it. Maybe the next bottle will get to pass by my lips. Less than 50/50 chance.

This is one of my absolute favorite , and go-to, white wines. The nose is light and grapefruitey. The taste is citrus fruit all around. My previous go-to, crowd pleasing White was Conundrum, but this wine has taken the top rank. It is somewhat more complex and satisfying than Conundrum, while being just as refreshing and satisfying. Furthermore, it is $13.50 for the Pine Ridge vs. $25+ for the Conundrum (in NYC).

This extraordinary blend enchants the nose with a refreshing bouquet of succulent fruit and delicate florals, opening with juicy honeydew melon, sweet white peach, and ripe green plum touched with hints of spiced white tea and soft apple blossom. The vivacious palate leads with crisp yellow grapefruit, fresh-cut pineapple and sumptuous honeyed pear notes. Lush and lively fruit flavors linger through the clean and slightly off-dry finish.

Floral and sweet on the nose, the 2007 Chenin Blanc-Viognier exhibits fragrant aromas of pear, lychee and melon, with a delicate touch of grapefruit, lime and mixed citrus. Sweet, bright flavors of lively citrus and pear are offered up along with a supple texture. The slightly off-dry finish is clean and crisp, marked with notes of red grapefruit. 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Viognier

Winemaker's Notes:

90 points Robert Parker: A consistent winner in the value sweepstakes... 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Viognier. This dry white offers a stunning aromatic display of honeydew melons, spring flowers, pears and cantaloupe. The sumptuous perfume is followed by a wine with crisp, zesty acids, medium body and abundant purity as well as freshness. The Viognier component no doubt pushes this delightful white toward an exotic, tropical fruit- flavored style... This beauty is meant to be consumed over the next year. (Aug 2013)
