Approachable with a nose of licorice and a palate mingling black tea with black cherries.
Very dark violet color. Some oak, some cassis on the nose. Quite fruity on the tip of the tongue--boysenberries, prunes. Some earthiness as the wine travels over the palate. Then, the tannin puckeriness happens--not so much, I'm very OK with it. Fruity "sweetness" returns at the back of the throat ???? Very mellow, lengthy, enjoyable finish. I'm looking forward to having this wine with grilled lamb chops, tonight. US$21.99 in 1998 at a place called JV Warehouse.

Showy with its upfront herb, mineral, coffee and fleshy, meaty currant flavors. Intensity tails off on the finish, making this a good bet for near-term consumption. Drink now through 2006. 11,500 cases made. (JL)
