One of the best Cabernets at any price point. Very smooth, deep, and broad in flavors. This is a big inky wine yet it is not overpowering. Black fruits, vanilla, and toast dominate. This wine is layered and complex and will please you form the first whif to the legthy finish

    Winemaker's Notes:

    ORIGIN: You'll immediately notice the renowned supple tannins and black cherry fruit flavors from this world-famous appellation of Stags Leap District. Our estate-bottled 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley - Stags Leap District is produced in the Bordeaux style blending 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 5% Malbec, and 4% Cabernet Franc. WINEMAKING: The grapes were harvested in early and mid October, pumped over traditionally and macerated on the skins for 26 days. The wine was pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation, and aged in 85% new, and 15% one-year-old heavily-toasted French oak barrels for 16 months. The wine was bottled in March 2000 without fining or filtration. ORIGINAL TASTING NOTES: This full-bodied Cabernet with concentrated red and black fruit flavors is complemented by black cherry, cassis, cedar and oak aromas. Firm, silky tannins and a toasty, caramel finish makes this blend enjoyable now, as well as in the future. CURRENT TASTING NOTES: The 1998 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit softer than other vintages of this wine but is aging well. Flavors and aromas of black cherry and briar are in balance with the velvety tannins that make this wine so distinct. Drink now through 2010. FOOD PAIRING: Wine-Braised Lamb Shank with Fingerling Potatoes CHEESE PAIRING: Aged Red Cow Parmesan The vintage produced 4,118 cases including 1.5L, 3.0L, and 6.0L formats.
