Pine & Post Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2009

Member Review by Innsmouth:

I'm not normally a big fan of cabernet sauvignons, but this one is a pleasant surprise to me. VERY, VERY smooth without the usually herbal nature of most cabs I've had. Quite fruity, but I cannot quite place which notes exactly dominate in this wine. No matter, since the silky nature and the lack of tannins make this wine enjoyable throughout, despite any truly defining flavors or scents.

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

I found this wine locally @$4.99! It tastes like a $15 wine. Then I returned to the store and bought the last six bottles.

This wine has tannins, no doubt. They hit the mouth first, for me, and with an open palm. And then an understated fruit--yes, cherry and plums (as the winemaker's note mentions). But I like this structure in this wine--so many cabs are too jammy, too full of the fruit and squish around. It's especially good with steak. Yum.

Tart with some overripe fruit notes that come over as licorice. There's some light blueberry flavors with leather on a cherry finish

Dark ruby color leads to classic cherry aromas with notes of cedar, black pepper and grilled meats. Red cherry flavors show through accompanied by black plums, a hint of cassis, rounded out by smokiness and cedar. ripe firm tannins give good structure and weight to the wine.
