For the price, this is a killer wine. It'd be a good buy at double the price. Big red, with loads of fruit on the nose, a deep, opaque near-black color, and a full-bodied, muscular feel. Opens up on the palate with red fruit, then transitions into peppercorns and aroma of blue cheese. Very smooth, well-structured tannins, and an extremely long-lasting finish. Would pair well with strong, sweet cheeses, sweet lamb dishes, any dish with venison, and seared steak with a high fat content.

Super heavy and oaked up -- a fruity blast. Very, very tasty

This bottle started out too acidic and hot for me, but at Day 3, it opened up nicely for me. I still believe it would be better in a few years or with longer decanting. It had massive raspberries and plums. A bit of sweetness, which I don't mind. For the price, its got great QPR - but for the same price point, I was more drawn to the 2006 Chakana Cab Sauv from Argentina.

Great buy under 11$..... burns the tip of the tounge a little bit, but super flavorful and thick. A little sweet.

Poured into a glass, color wise it has a dark reddish maroon tint and on the nose there is toasted oak and dark fruits with also some menthol or minty notes that are intriguing (I have decanted for over an hour). Upon the first sips, there is dark fruit (stewed cherries perhaps), powerful charred oak and some subtle spice. The finish is short and simple, with tannin and alcohol driving the experience home.

The 2006 doesn't rock my shorts off quite as much as the 2005, but it's still a great value at this price point. Dark, dark fruit and isn't too hot on the palette despite it's high alcohol content.

The 2006 Pillar Box Red is 50% Shiraz, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8% Merlot aged in a mix of used French and American oak. Purple-colored, it offers an enticing, fruity nose including aromas of cassis, black cherry, black raspberry, and blueberry. Full-bodied, ripe, and layered with flavor, this wine totally over-delivers on my hedonist?s meter. Drink this awesome value over the next 2-3 years. Pillar Box has a powerful pedigree; fruit sourced from Henry?s Drive and winemaking consultation from the renowned Chris Ringland. -Jay Miller October 2007

The 2006 Red is a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. It boasts a dense ruby purple color as well as an uplifted, projected nose of sweet red and black fruits, earth, and spice box. Supple-texured with a voluptuous mouthfeel and unbelievable richness, this wine clearly over delivers. Enjoy for 2 - 3 years.Pillar Box red is an opaque red/black color with a scarlet rim.
