What to Expect

Dolcetto is one of the most common grapes from Italy's Piedmont region. Its name refers to the sweetness of the grape, and while the wine can be fruity it is not sweet - in fact it often has a touch of bitterness on the finish. Dolcetto has moderate acidity and tannins and is generally made in an approachable style that highlights the grape's natural fruitiness which recalls blackberry and plum.

Winemakers Notes

In the Piedmont region of Italy, a Dolcetto is often found on restaurant tables because the grape's berry and spice flavors and natural acidity make the wine a natural accompaniment for meals. Our Estate Dolcetto features ripe plum and blackberry flavors with undertones of almond and licorice. The wine is full-bodied with soft tannins and a lingering finish.

Editorial Reviews

This seems dominated by wood notes on the nose with burnt candle, tarry asphalt and coffee liquor notes. A touch reductive with slow to emerge herbal, clover tones and plum jam fruit. Smooth and plush in the mouth with a solid tannic core but also fairly rich so there is good balance here This could benefit from a few years ageing, deep dark fruit with cocoa, plum, prune, and juniper notes, a bit candied but with a powerful finish that offers up jammy plum and toast tones. 87pts

Reviews

Very fruity, light with gently, silky tannins. Had an intriguing nose of wet wool and meat with some sweet floral undertones. Very drinkable, and the crowd favorite of the night (also the third bottle, so who can tell)...

Smooth, peppery, good with a meal or on its own

Pronounced peppery nose with vigorous plumb body, light tannins and light acidity complement the mild sugars and smoky release.
