Pietra Santa Cabernet Sauvignon Cienega Valley Signature Collection 2003
Editorial Reviews for Pietra Santa Cabernet Sauvignon Cienega Valley Signature Collection
Sweetly oaky on the nose with lots of dried ginger, clove and vanilla notes that accent the slightly jammy blackberry fruit. there are hints of green herbs floating in the background but overall this has a very ripe, pie filling character to it. In the mouth this is big and lush yet well balanced. It is powerful but there is almost an airiness here that belies the depth. There is no over extracted feel just power. There is great acidity here that keeps the wine zesty yet the tannins are really soft and hidden in the fruit that takes on a cherry Dr. pepper quality on the finish. 87pts with room for improvement.
hot on the nose but also intense with a bit of fudginess, sandy, soil, mineral tones, a bit of an herbal and black olive background, with a fresh, unsweetened yet jammy quality about the fruit which leans towards cranberry and black cherry , tobacco- very fresh in the mouth, bright and very well balanced with plenty of tannin but all well draped by dark spiced berry fruit, a touch of granite, tobacco, leafy greens, iron rich spinach, nopales, and mint, nicely complex and yet just an attractive touch of astringency/austerity prevents this from being too much, charcoal on the back end, spicy, mineral, and almost icy cool mint on the moderately long finish with notes of candy apple and maybe green melon rind, lots of wine here. 92pts
