Pierre Usseglio Fils & Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul(2001)

Red Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul (in memory of the grandfather Francis Usseglio). This wine is made from three different terroirs (Serres, Bédine and La Crau) with 100% Grenache. The vines are quite old and the yield is 20-22 hl./ha.
The production comes from about 6,5 ha and in an average year are produced 140 hl or 18.000 bottles.

($69) Red-ruby. Raspberry liqueur, game and exotic woodsmoke on the nose. Large-scaled, powerful and dense, with an impressive, solid core of almost medicinal black cherry and dark berry fruit. Very deep, rich, young Chateauneuf with strong but ripe palate-coating tannins and superb persistence. This will reward seven to ten years of cellaring.
