Pieropan Soave Classico la Rocca 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

92+ points Ian D'Agata (Vinous): Vivid golden-tinged straw. Sweet aromas of vanilla, orange oil, crème brulée and menthol on the nose. At once densely packed and taut, with powerful crushed stone flavors buffered by a touch of sweetness on the long back end that features hints of orange oil and ripe apricot. This sappy wine appears to have considerable aging potential. A lovely La Rocca. Drink: 2019-2027. (Jun 2017)

Tasted in Oct. 2007, this wine had picked up some cheese aromas and other secondary scents, but remained lively and bright. Some fine acidity offered a backbone to the rounded palate, with citrus and other white fruity flavors. A beautiful wine with cheese and other subtleties.

Selected #2 on Wine Enthusiast Magazine Top 100 Wines of 2014! The Pieropan estate dates back to the late 1800’s when Nino Pieropan’s grandfather built a following for his excellent and innovative Soave wines. Today The Pieropans are showing the world just how great Soave can be in the right hands. Terrain is Nino’s first secret, like the vineyard where this wine is sourced, La Rocca. It’s a single vineyard on the Monte Rocchetta with Southeast exposure between 700 and 1,000 feet above sea level and old vines up to 50 years of age. 100% Garganega, after brief maceration on the skins, the wine aged in oak barrels for one year, followed by six months’ bottle age. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 95 points and Editors Choice saying “This stunning single-vineyard selection is one of Italy’s most iconic whites and helped kick off Soave’s renaissance. It delivers pressed yellow flowers, golden apples, citrus, melon and mango alongside mineral and toasted almond notes. Already delicious and well balanced, it will age beautifully and develop more complexity for several years at least. Drink through 2021.” Very Limited!

The 2009 Soave Classico La Rocca opens with an attractive bouquet framed by subtle hints of oak. Sweet apricots, honey and jasmine are all beautifully layered in the glass. Extremely expressive nose of apple, pear and tree-fruit blossoms mingle with honeysuckle. This 100% Garganega is clean and well-balanced on the palate-all parts moving together in a cohesive way. Pieropan's 2008 Soave Classico La Rocca emerges with hints of ash, spices, dried apricots and flowers, all of which are woven in a rich, textured fabric of inimitable class.
