Pieropan Soave Classico 2016

Winemaker's Notes:

88 points Ian D'Agata (Vinous): Bight pale straw. Almost pungent herbal nuances to the aromas of citrus fruit and apple. Then herbal and tactile with good weight to the orchard fruit and botanical herb flavors but comes across as a little simple, even a touch bitter at the back. Drink: 2017-2019. (Jun 2017)

Restrained, austere notes of toast, lemon tart and almond on the nose. Intriguing toasty brioche notes on the palate with a tart palate of crisp lemon, grapefruit and dried apricot with a drying oaky nuttiness and spice on the finish.

Juicy aromas of pineapple and lemon with a bit of heat and spice. Medium-light bodied in the mouth, this is fairly simple but refreshing with notes of lemon and light melon, a hint of herb and a medium-short finish. This wine would pair excellently with a variety of delicate foods because it is unassuming and approachable while still having enough zest to clean the palate. 89 pts

Candied vanilla greets the nose and this is followed by gentle, pleasant and clean lemon-peel citrus on the palate. Though youthful and thoroughly enjoyable now, this is a wine with some character easily capable of another 3 or 4 years in the bottle. This is typical Pieropan quality well worth the additional few dollars for many dollars more enjoyment.

Light lemon extract color with muted pear and Granny Smith Apple on the nose. Good, smooth pear, apple and ginger-flavored mineral water upon entry with clarity and beauty of expression. An excellent example of what can be achieved with Soave by a determined producer!

Wonderfully fresh and fragrant. Aromas of pear and peach with lavender and a bit of fresh cut grass. On the palate it shows finesse and vibrancy with apple and lemon with minerals showing on the finish. Paired perfectly with a pumpkin ravioli in sage butter sauce.

Sleek and smoky, this light-bodied, silky white is packed with flavor. A smoky hint of minerality underscores the range of ripe apricot, blood orange, pickled ginger, Thai basil and verbena notes. Lovely, with a lasting streak of salinity on the aromatic finish. Drink now through 2020. 23,000 cases made.

Fragrances recall honeysuckle, jasmine and citrus zest. The juicy palate offers creamy green apple, Bartlett pear and nectarine alongside zesty acidity. A note of white almond signals the close.

pear and tangerine flavors that last impressively on the back end; this reminded me of walking through an orchard. Excellent focus for an entry-level Soave. One of the two best base Soaves of 2010; in fact

Bright and fruity with sliced green apple, mineral and lemon character. Medium-bodied. Loads of lemon rind on the fresh finish. This is always serious Soave. Drink now.
