Visited this winery in Tuscany. Sebastian, the owner is a strict vegetarian but you would never know with this wine and all of his wines for that matter. It pairs up really well with Italian lardo and meats. Batar is super smooth and a classic in my opinion. Since it's completely organic and bio dynamic one couldn't ask for a better white!

Medium-ruby. Sauvage, roasted aromas of cassis, violet, minerals and licorice; really quite bright and expressive today. Thick but sappy in the mouth, already showing a panoply of flavors: smoked meat, bacon fat, leather, violet, brown spices. Very long and aromatic on the aftertaste. This is measurably low in acidity, according to Tardieu, yet comes across as vibrant and light on its feet.
After the potentially perfect 1999 Cote Rotie, it is not surprising that the 2000 Cote Rotie (100% Syrah from 20–60-year old vines) seems merely mortal. While it lacks the fatness and majestic depth of the 1999, the 2000 reveals adequate tannin, an earthy, olive, and black currant-scented nose, a good, but uninspiring mid-palate, and a dry finish. If the prolonged elevage sur-lie works as well as Michel Tardieu hopes, the mid-palate should fill out. Anticipated maturity: 2004–2016.
Bright aromas of crushed berry and raspberry, with a hint of mineral. Full-bodied and very round, with lovely velvety tannins and a long finish. Big and boisterous. Almost rustic, but hell, it's a beauty. Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2006.(WS)
Deep ruby-red. Compelling Cote-Rotie perfume of violet, black pepper, gunflint, roasted meat, licorice and exotic woodsmoke. Lush, round and exotic, with plenty of structure under its fat. Very long, building finish shows an almost salty impression of extract and an exhilarating oriental spice component. But the 2001, from a much smaller crop, is even thicker and more explosive.
The finest effort yet from this estate, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine shows smoky, oaky notes intermixed with chocolate, black currant, spice box, and licorice. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with lush, concentrated fruit, excellent purity, and a long layered finish. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2014. RP #146 Apr 2003
"The sunny one." From severely selected grapes at the tail end of the harvest season, fermented in open top containers, then matured in French barrique. The result is typical SuperTuscan. Intense fruit, complex structure, unmistakeable varietal emphasis and a lingering finish.
