What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Reviews

This is a brilliant Syrah made by Sashi Moorman from vineyard sources in Los Alamos, Westerly Vineyard, and a limestone soil vineyard called Harrison. The alcoholic fermentation took place in cognac barrels after which it was aged 18 months in wood casks. The wine boasts a saturated ruby/purple color along with a floral and black fruit-dominated nose with hints of plums, cassis, blueberries, and exotic fruits. Opulent, with superb intensity, a multilayered, impressive texture, and fine purity, it is impossible to resist, yet should last for 7-8 years. -Wine Advocate

A fabulous vintage for this winery, the 2003 Piedrasassi (100% Syrah) exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a gorgeous perfume of mocha-infused, peppery blackberries, and cassis, an opulent, layered attack and mid-palate, and a full-bodied, lush... Robert Parker. A Syrah wine from California in USA. 2003 Piedrasassi Syrah 750ml

Jammy, dark fruit, a touch of honey. Pleasant enough but I have to admit that I didnt get this wine. Maybe just overshadowed by the Spottswoode CS 01 we drank before it. But seems generic. If tasted blindly, it could be mistaken for a variety of varietals or regions.
