Piccini Chianti Classico 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Bright ruby with a hint of purple. Plum, violet notes mix with lush, ripe wild berries. Expansive and alive on the palate, with a lingering, velvety mouth feel. The long finish is buried in fruit. A versatile wine, best served at 64°F, fantastic with juicy red meats, grilled or roasted. 95 percent Sangiovese, 5 percent Ciliegiolo -- the word for "cherry tree" in Italian. This helps bring out the underlying color an flavor of this delicious Chianti. Sangiovese is the principal red grape of Tuscany and contributes the wine’s very attractive black cherry color, aroma and flavor. Its savoriness is balanced by soft tannins and a modest 13 percent alcohol.

A bit shy at first, but when opened, has a good dark cherry and violet aroma, balanced acidity, tannins and a pleasant finish. I enjoyed it with a veal sirloin steak.
