Powerful bouquet with cherry, coffee and hints of chocolate and oak. The palate is full with fresh rounded tannins, really fruity and thick. Lingering finish. Needs a few years in the bottle. Tasted 11/07

The Antinori family's Brunello estate has seen ups and downs in terms of wine consistency over the past five years. But 2008 delivers an honest and nicely concentrated expression that seems to benefit beautifully from the slightly warmer temperatures in its lower altitude vineyards. Dark chocolate, cherry fruit and barbecue spice appear on the finish. - M.L. Floral and raspberry aromas and flavors pick up tobacco, soy and briar components in this intense, wiry red. Lean, yet remains persistent and well-balanced, leaving a trail of spice and mineral accents. Best from 2016 through 2032. 1,750 cases imported. -BS (14% alcohol): Vivid medium-dark red. Peach, candied red cherry and underbrush on the forward nose. Large-scaled and almost fat on entry, then lively acidity frames the fleshy red cherry and redcurrant jelly flavors, with complicating notes of spicy black pepper and aromatic herbs adding depth. The finish is chewy, long and noticeably...

Rich, yet sleek, delivering cherry, raspberry, floral and spice flavors, vivid acidity and refined tannins for support. Turns elegant and almost ethereal on the long aftertaste. Best from 2014 through 2025. 1,700 cases imported. -BS Antinori's 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne flows across the palate with sweet red cherries, flowers, spices, leather and tobacco, all of which come together in a rich, sensual style. The aromas and flavors are just a touch forward, suggesting the 2007 is likely to be a relatively early-maturing wine. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. Bramble and forest floor, cherry cola and savory bresaola notes amount to pretty aromatics with less bulkiness in the mouth. The structure is there but this wine is a bit dry, sharp and less fleshy than many others. - M.L.

Has dried cherry and berry aromas, with hints of flowers, following through to a full body, with silky tannins and a delicate finish. A little reserved, but theres lots of fresh fruit and racy acidity. Best after 2010. 14,160 cases made. -JS Moderately saturated medium red. Pure, floral aromas of redcurrant, smoky plum and minerals. Politely styled Brunello but with sneaky concentration to the pure red berry, almond, tobacco and mineral flavors. Finishes very long and seamless, conveying an almost saline sense of extract. Plenty of verve and definition here: I find it to be the best Brunello ever made by Antinori, by a long shot. Antinori's 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne is a sweet, perfumed offering. Medium in body, the wine offers up scents of tobacco, wild cherries, spices and flowers in an elegant, restrained style for this bottling. The silky, finessed tannins frame the fruit nicely and carry through all the way to the long finish. Anticip...
