Philipponnat Royale Reserve NV

Member Review by Yann:

Mostly made out of the millesime 2004, 17% reserve wine, bottled in 2007. Appearance: pale yellow with tiny and centered bubbles. Nose: Citrus (some kind of mandarin smell) and some wood Taste: sharp, still too much acidity for me, had one older millesime couple of days ago, was more "round" and finished (I always believe that champagne from the "grandes maison" should be kept a bit longer) Had it as in apéritif and continued with some scallop spaghettis with cherry tomatoes a bit of ginger and cilantro, was a very pleasant combination, would recommend it to any other fish.

Philipponnat:
Along the banks of the River Marne and close to the Mareuil sur Aÿ Roman church, which is situated in the middle of its own vineyards, Champagne Philipponnat produces wines with an exceptional house style. The main courtyard opens onto a beautiful classic façade situated just behind a gate stamped with the family coat of arms. Here lies the heart of Philipponnat - its XVIIIth Century cellars where, shielded from the world, its wines slowly mature.

Very vinous, this Champagne packs hazelnut, apple, lemon and mineral into a full-bodied, intense package, yet maintains a sense of gracefulness, with a fine, lingering aftertaste of walnut.
