Philippe Raimbault Sancerre "Apud Sariacum" Sauvignon Blanc 2007

External Review by Astor Wines & Spirits:

Like all great examples of Sancerre, this wine is characterized by a perfect marriage of place and grape variety. It shows perfectly ripened fruit and a fine-toned, racy minerality of white limestone.

"The notable design on the Sancerre "Apud Sariacum" label comes from the long history of the area. The soil in Phillippe's vineyards is part of a geological stratum that formed during the Jurrassic period, and is now home to many fossils of sea creatures that are more than 130 million years old. It is this fossil that is depicted on the label. Phillippe still finds these fossils in the vineyard, and has a personal collection on display in his cellar. The name 'Apud Sariacum' was the ancient name of Sury-en-Vaux until the 12th century. This cuvee is made exclusively from the vines that encircle the village." -Importer
