At that time, the city was a major trading centre with the British Isles. The families that did business together, buying and selling the wines produced in the region, formed close tics. These relationships sometimes led to marriages, and notably that of Bernard Phelan to one of the daughters of Daniel Guestier, a well-known merchant in the market. With the benefit of his father-inlaw's experience, he was able to sum thinking about making his own wines, in order to do this, he acquired Ie Clos dc Caramey. located in Saint-Esiephe, in 1805. followed in 1810 by the Segur de Cabanac estate to complement his first acquisition. He thus created a magnificent wine-producing domain that remains practically unchanged today. When he died in 1841. Bernard Phelan Ieft this vast estate, known from then on under the combined name ot Chateau Segur de Garamey, to his son Frank. In addition, he became the mayor of Saint-Esstephe, holding the post for thirty years. Read less

Pretty on the nose, and while the oak is a bit prominent, this has lovely nuanced herbal and nutty, almost cooked vegetable beet root and parsnip aromas. Tight and light on entry, there's terrific substance here but you really have to coax it out, there is great vibrancy to what is here, and it comes of as very classic, and while it probably won't be terribly long lived, this will be fascinating to follow, ripe tannins but plenty of them support good length on the very fresh finish. 92pts
