Light, with a small bite at the end. A touch creamy.
The color is a lively light golden yellow. Citrus aromas - primarily lemon and lime - are complemented by great minerality and yeasty notes. A bit of honey emerges over a bit of time and with some swirling. The mouthfeel is rich but not heavy with a solid acidity and some bitterness. Lemon, minerality, and honey, as well as stone fruits, fill the palate. A long, pleasant finish. See more about this wine and others at: www.winedinewith.us

The Y-shaped valley formed by the confluence of the Adige and Isarco rivers is the source of Italy's northern-most winemaking regions, the Alto Adige, from where Roger Clemens could throw a ball to Austria! Here St Michael-Eppan (Eppan is German for the Italian Appiano, a terroir favored for white grape varieties) produces a Pinot Grigio that is pale straw in color, has soft citrus and mineral flavors and finishes with spritely acidity. Perfect for fish and summer picnics.
Sneaks up on you. Not much on the nose, but the palate is fresh and fruity, with peach and melon character and just a hint of mineral. Crisp finish. Drink now.
This cooperative of more than 350 members has access to some of the best vineyards in Alto Adige. The vines are planted on calcareous, gravelly soils and enjoy warm days and cool nights, allowing the grapes to fully ripen without losing acidity. The 2008 vintage, with persistent rain into August, was potentially disastrous, but favorable weather before harvest, low yields and careful work in the cellar allowed winemaker Hans Terzer to craft a complex and balanced wine.
The 2008 Pinot Grigio is a terrific example of Alto Adige Pinot Grigio at this price point. Steely, cool and reserved, the wine reveals plenty of varietal aromas and flavors in a focused style. Readers will have a very hard time finding a better Pinot Grigio for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011.
Don't let a Pinot bias sway you from the St. Michael-Eppan - this is no lemon-water white! Richly textured, with layers of citrus and stone fruits, lychee nut and almond flavors. A vein of mineral runs through the intense fruit creating structure, and the bright acidity gives a feeling of freshness and vibrancy. Great bottle!

The St Michael-Eppan wines are certainly worthy to be called wine gems. This one received a 90-point rating from Wine Spectator for the 2008 vintage and was ranked #70 in the WS Top 100 Wines of 2009!St Michael-Eppan Pinot Grigio is straw yellow in color with a nose of pears, apples, floral and mineral notes.
