Peter Michael Sauvignon Blanc Knights Valley l'Apres-midi 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Grown along side of our Les Pavots Bordeaux red varietals, the Sauvignon Blanc for L’Après-Midi has taken to the cool slopes of Mount St. Helena. The grapes were picked and sorted by hand, whole cluster pressed and then naturally fermented in barrel. No malolactic fermentation was conducted in order to preserve the fruity and zesty character of the Sauvignon Blanc. All lots were aged separately on their lies for 8 months with gentle bâtonnage, then judiciously blended to compose the cuvée

From the beginning, the wine growing philosophy was modeled on the French tradition infused with a few modern influences: One, the vineyard terroir would be the single most important feature. Two, the wines would be elegant rather than overstated. Three, there would be a hundred-year commitment to the development of a great estate. Read less

Strahlendes helles gelb. Finessenreiches Finale.

Fragrant, with pretty floral, citrus, melon and passion fruit scents that are arresting, turning rich and complex on the palate, with layers of fig and apricot folding in on the finish, gaining richness and depth... Pungent aromas of gooseberry and minerals, with more exotic pink grapefruit emerging with aeration. Dense, supple and rich, with lovely depth of musky grapefruit and yellow fruit flavors, firmed by the wine's stony underpinning. Very concentrated for... Stephen Tanzer. Tasting Notes:

Very intense and multi-layered, the bouquet is dominated by forest spring flowers, honeysuckle, lily, acacia, orange blossom, with white peach, lemon, lime, William pear, grapefruit, honey, minerals. The rich and delicate, zesty flavors follow seamlessly from the aroma. Layered, elegant and very long, the estate’s signature wet stone minerality balances the richness lending a superb refinement to the finish. Build to age, the 2009 L’Après-Midi is already revealing itself as a superb expression our estate’s terroir.
