Peter Michael Chardonnay Knights Valley Ma Belle-Fille 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

98-100 points Robert Parker: The 2015 Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille was hit less hard by the damaging winds during the blossom than the other vineyards, and production was lower but similar to 2014, with 2,320 cases produced in 2015 versus 2,523 in 2014. This is a multiple-clone selection with Old Wente joining the Hudson, Montrachet and Calera clones in this vineyard, which was planted between 1998-2000. The 2015 Ma Belle-Fille shows notes of baked apples, nectarines, poached pear and honeysuckle in a full-bodied, extraordinarily pure, crisp, zesty style. This magnificent Chardonnay has a finish of close to a minute. It has essentially the same aromatic and flavor profile as well as huge body and concentration that also characterized the 2014, with oodles of caramelized citrus and honeysuckle in its explosive aromatics and intense flavors. Both are fabulous Chardonnays like their siblings and should be drunk over the next 10-12 years. Drink 2016-2028. (Oct 2016)

Aromas of lychee, nuts, citrus and rose petals. Creamy and rich! Don't usually drink Chardonnays, yet this is one of the few I will drink.

The straw/green-colored 2008 Chardonnay Belle Cote (2,200 cases) exhibits abundant amounts of tropical fruit, orange blossom, citrus oil, honeysuckle, and pineapple characteristics intermixed with a hint of smoke. With superb ripeness and an intense, layered style, it, too, should keep for a decade.

Ultrarich and concentrated, built around a core of ripe fig, melon, ripe pear and spice notes. Keeps the focus on the fruit. Long and persistent. Drink now through 2012.

A big, bold style, with plenty of toasty oak and elements of graham cracker and wood. But also shows ripe, rich pear, apple and honeyed fruit that fans out nicely on the palate. Drink now through 2010.

Light yellow. Mineral-driven aromas of orange zest, pear and smoked meat, complicated by an intense note of iodine. Surprisingly light on its feet, with focused citrus and mineral flavors underscored by vibrant minerality. The finish repeats the iodine element and shows outstanding length and focus.

Green-gold. Ripe melon and peach on the nose, with notes of honey and toasty lees adding an impression of richness. Fleshy and expansive on the palate, displaying dense pit fruit and honeydew flavors and a late note of candied orange. Finishes smooth and broad, with lingering spiciness and a hint of allspice.

The 2001 Chardonnay Belle Côte exhibits exotic tropical fruit notes, a layered, opulent texture, medium to full body, less minerality than La Carriere, beautiful layers of fruit, and a stunning finish. This brilliant effort should drink well for 5-7 years.

Rich, exotic smoky oak, fresh bread dough and smoked grain aromas surround a plush core of ripe pear, fig and earthy citrus flavors that turn creamy and buttery on a long, lingering finish. Shows a trace of heat, but is enormously complex and sophisticated. Drink now through 2007.
