External Reviews for Peter Michael Chardonnay Knights Valley Ma Belle-Fille
A big, bold style, with plenty of toasty oak and elements of graham cracker and wood. But also shows ripe, rich pear, apple and honeyed fruit that fans out nicely on the palate. Drink now through 2010.
Light yellow. Mineral-driven aromas of orange zest, pear and smoked meat, complicated by an intense note of iodine. Surprisingly light on its feet, with focused citrus and mineral flavors underscored by vibrant minerality. The finish repeats the iodine element and shows outstanding length and focus.
Young, raw and vibrant, yet rich and concentrated. Still coarse and leesy, but with a rich, solid core of fig, melon, pear and spice. Full-bodied, focused and persistent, gaining depth. Drink now through 2015.
Rich, exotic smoky oak, fresh bread dough and smoked grain aromas surround a plush core of ripe pear, fig and earthy citrus flavors that turn creamy and buttery on a long, lingering finish. Shows a trace of heat, but is enormously complex and sophisticated. Drink now through 2007.
Green-gold. Ripe melon and peach on the nose, with notes of honey and toasty lees adding an impression of richness. Fleshy and expansive on the palate, displaying dense pit fruit and honeydew flavors and a late note of candied orange. Finishes smooth and broad, with lingering spiciness and a hint of allspice.
The 2001 Chardonnay Belle Côte exhibits exotic tropical fruit notes, a layered, opulent texture, medium to full body, less minerality than La Carriere, beautiful layers of fruit, and a stunning finish. This brilliant effort should drink well for 5-7 years.
Pale gold with a green tint. Pure, penetrating aromas of orange, lime zest, minerals, iodine and white pepper. Racy, sharply focused citrus and floral flavors gain flesh and sweetness with air, picking up a juicy nectarine quality while maintaining their vivacity. The peppery note returns on the clean, stony, very persistent finish. Offers the raciness of the Mon Plaisir but this is deeper and more tactile.
94 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): Hazy yellow. Wild, intensely perfumed bouquet evokes citrus pith, poached pear, ginger and iodine, with a smoky overtone and emphatic spiciness. The iodinery minerality of this wine reminds me of uni! Deeply pitched citrus fruit and floral flavors are braced by tangy acidity and complemented by toasted nut and honey nuances. Clings with outstanding tenacity, leaving notes of smoky minerals and lemon zest behind. (May 2012)
