Peter Lehmann Shiraz Barossa Valley Black Queen 2006
Sparkling Shiraz is a unique Australian wine style, first developed in South Australia in the late 1800’s. In the 1930’s, 40’s & 50’s, the Seppelt winery at Great Western in Victoria became the home of great Australian sparkling Shiraz, or sparkling Burgundy as it was commonly known at the time. Chief winemaker Andrew Wigan grew up in a town close to that winery and those sparkling Shiraz held a strong attraction for a young winemaker. Ever since he came to the Barossa in the mid 1970’s to work with Peter Lehmann, he wanted to make a great sparkling wine from Barossa Shiraz. The colour of this unusual wine is dark cherry red. The nose has lashings of beautiful soft chocolate and dark plums. Having spent 6 years on yeast lees, it has a persistent fine bead, and is superbly developed, showing richness, softness and a delicious yeast complexity. The perfect celebration wine. A great party starter and wonderful for a lazy Sunday brunch. Try with egg and bacon pie! Delicious with roast turkey, baked honey-glazed ham.

A nice blend
Inky violet color, soft aromas, ripe tree fruit with soft tannin. Finishes soft and wet. Pairings: Matches well with spiced foods and meat, like holiday foods or Morrocan

This blend is 37% Shiraz, 36% Cab, and 27% Merlot. The nose is dark plum and chocolate, velvety smooth. Great BBQ wine!

Peter Lehmann Wines have had a lot of reasons to celebrate over the years as they have won many awards for their wines. Of course to celebrate you have to have bubbles, so it only made sense that they would make a range of Sparkling wines.
