Editorial Reviews for Peter Lehmann Red Blend Barossa Layers
2009 Lehmann Layers Shiraz Barossa 14.5% $13 Very peppery on the nose, with red fruit and a rather herbal, dried wood, old tree bark note adding complexity to the late arriving notes of smoked meat. A touch sweet on entry, this is fairly bright in the mouth with lively acids and nice tannins lending tension. The flavors are rather subdued, fairly aromatic in the mouth with red fruit notes and a nice savory, herbal element as well as a hint of mushroom on the backend. The finish is a bit short and shows more black fruit. A nice, friendly easy to drink Shiraz Blend. 87pts
Good value Shiraz blend of five grapes. Subtle dry tannins with lovely pepper finish. Black licorice and plum/blackberry accents. Overall balanced red, but slightly acidic.
An intriguing blend of Pinot Gris, Muscat, GewArztraminer, Chardonnay, Semillon. This wine paired well with oven roasted halibut in a garlic cream sauce and sliced, butter roasted potatoes with bacon and onion. There's nice hints of the various "layered" varietals with each sip, and a crisp balanced structure of stone fruits, honey, citrus and melon. Very pleasant finish that doesn't linger too long.
